The news just got released by Deadline: Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Pete Davidson and Sebastian Stan are set to play in Craig Gillespie’s upcoming movie Dumb Money. The movie “tells the story of fortunes won and lost overnight in the David-vs.-Goliath GameStop short squeeze that might have ended up changing Wall Street forever. It offers a gripping portrayal of how a loosely affiliated group of private investors and internet trolls on a subreddit called WallStreetBets took down one of the biggest hedge funds on Wall Street, firing the first shot in a revolution that threatened to upend the establishment.”

DEADLINE | After signing on to the project in April, Craig Gillespie has lined up an all-star cast of faces familiar to the director. Sources tell Deadline that Paul Dano, Seth Rogen, Sebastian Stan and Pete Davidson are set to star in Black Bear Pictures’ Dumb Money, an adaptation of Ben Mezrich’s book The Antisocial Network, with Gillespie directing. Rebecca Angelo & Lauren Schuker Blum are adapting with Ryder Picture Company’s Aaron Ryder, Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman and Gillespie producing.

Deadline has been all over this project going back to when the film was set up at MGM, which landed the rights to Mezrich’s manuscript in January. The project recently moved over to Black Bear, which is planning to launch sales on the film at this month’s Toronto Film Festival through its Black Bear International division led by John Friedberg. Executive producers include Michael Heimler, Friedberg, Andrew Swett, Angelo, Schuker Blum, Mezrich, Johnny Holland, Tyler Winklevoss, Cameron Winklevoss and Kevin Ulrich.

Black Bear Pictures is fully financing, with Black Bear International handling the foreign distribution rights. UTA Independent Film Group is representing the U.S. rights to the film.

Principal photography will begin in October on Dumb Money, which tells the story of fortunes won and lost overnight in the David-vs.-Goliath GameStop short squeeze that might have ended up changing Wall Street forever. We’re honored to partner with him, Aaron Ryder, and this terrific team in front and behind the camera to bring Dumb Money to audiences everywhere.”

Gillespie, Rogen and Stan have been looking for something to team on following the success of their Hulu limited series Pam & Tommy, and this fit in their wheelhouse of stories that seem to wild to be true. As for Pam & Tommy, not only was the series one of Hulu’s bigger hits of the year, it earned Emmy nominations for all three, along with Best Limited Series and six other noms.

As for Dano, he already is gaining some awards season momentum with his performance as Burt Fabelman in Steven Spielberg’s The Fabelmans, which premieres next week at the Toronto Film Festival. He also earned rave reviews as the Riddler in Warner Bros. box office smash The Batman, directed by Matt Reeves.

Besides Pam & Tommy, Rogen is gaining his own awards-season buzz in The Fabelmans as well, where he plays the uncle of the main character. He also recently was seen in the Emmy-nominated Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers.

Stan also delivered a noteworthy performance in the black comedy thriller Fresh, alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones. He next will star in Sharper and A Different Man.

Davidson most recently was in Bodies Bodies Bodies for A24. He is in production on the Peacock series Bupkis, alongside Joe Pesci and Edie Falco.

Dano is repped by WME and Anonymous Content, Rogen by UTA and Principal Entertainment LA and Stan by CAA and Brookside Artist Management. Gillespie is represented by UTA and Rumble Media, and Davidson, Angelo, Blum and Mezrich are repped by CAA. Ryder Picture Company is repped by UTA.

Sebastian Stan himself broke the news a few days ago, the actor is going to star as the lead in A24 next film. Yesterday, Deadline announced the title of the movie, A Different Man, as well as two others members of the cast: Renate Reinsve and Adam Pearson. The movie will be directed by Aaron Schimberg and will be financed and produced by A24. Sebastian Stan has also been announced as the executive producer of this project. The filming is starting next month so let’s hope we’ll continue to have more news about this during the following weeks.

LA Times | If the Emmy Drama Roundtable proves anything, it’s that even the stars of TV’s buzziest shows are familiar with the indignities of the working stiff.

When asked, in regard to his role in “Severance,” if there’s a job on his résumé he’d prefer to forget, Adam Scott said even his less memorable work moved him forward. But, he noted, “My first job ever, I was in the background for a Tia Carrere music video. … It was in the fall of 1993 and it was at a coffeehouse and I had a beret and I was drinking coffee. I actually can’t find it on YouTube, so I guess the world has forgotten about it.”

Rhea Seehorn, starring to broad acclaim in the final season of “Better Call Saul,” said, “I have many auditions I’d like to forget.”

“I would forget every audition if I could,” said Melanie Lynskey, who stars in Showtime’s creepy survival tale “Yellowjackets.”

Sebastian Stan, in the process of obliterating his Marvel superhero image with a transformative turn in “Pam & Tommy,” used to submit elaborate VHS audition tapes.

I think my first big movie job came off of a tape,” he said. “And I remember I was really cool about it because I had a cigarette. You couldn’t really do that in the auditions. And this particular time it worked because the producer smoked cigarettes and he really was just …”

“‘Someone that smokes cigarettes is right for our cast,’” Scott interjects.

Kaitlyn Dever of “Dopesick” recalled one of her first jobs, at age 14, on Scott’s show, “Party Down”: “I played a girl named Escapade. … I sang ‘The Star-Spangled Banner’ in front of the entire cast.”

Jin Ha, who holds degrees from Columbia and NYU and is currently featured speaking three languages (four dialects) in “Pachinko,” said, “There’s a babysitting job I wish I could sever [from] my brain. It was just once because they never asked me back. It was two young girls and I made bacon for them and it did not go well. I poured the hot oil into the trash bin, which must have melted.”

A few days ago, Variety announced the duos for their next season of the famous Actors on Actors series, including Sebastian Stan with Jennifer Aniston. Stan is receiving Emmy buzz for donning tattoos and losing weight to play Tommy Lee, the Mötley Crüe drummer, in Hulu’s limited series “Pam & Tommy” — which is set in the decade that made Aniston a star on “Friends.” Actually, as Aniston thinks about it, she could see Stan chilling on the famous coffeehouse couch on her former sitcom. But they don’t agree about one thing: Is he a Joey or a Chandler?

The time travel then moves to the early days of COVID, to discuss Aniston’s transformative turn as anchor Alex Levy on Season 2 of “The Morning Show.” In the latest arc on the Apple TV+ drama, her character jets to Italy to confront her disgraced colleague and best friend Mitch Kessler (Steve Carell) — but that wasn’t always the show’s plan. By the time they finish exchanging stories on Variety‘s “Actors on Actors” presented by Apple TV+, Aniston and Stan are so comfortable, they’ve cast themselves in a dream project together.

SEBASTIAN STAN: I’m such a huge fan of yours. I have been for years, so this is very special. Where I’d love to start is with doing a show during COVID, and incorporating COVID as subject matter. How was that approaching it from the perspective of Alex?

JENNIFER ANISTON: There was obviously no COVID when we started shooting, although there were rumblings of it. It was, like, January. We had shot for about a month. All of a sudden, companies were closing and working from home. We were all saying, “What about the actors? We don’t have the luxury of social distancing. We’re in scenes together.”

Starring young British actor Daisy Edgar-Jones (Normal People) and seasoned leading man Sebastian Stan (Captain America: The Winter Soldier, I, Tonya, The Martian), Fresh begins by exploring the dynamics of the contemporary dating world… before crossing the boundaries of… taste…

Stan plays Steve, a handsome, single doctor who accidentally (but we realize later, of course, on purpose) strikes up a conversation with Daisy Edgar-Jones’ Noa in the produce aisle. It’s all so natural. They exchange numbers. He texts her. They go on a date. It’s a good date. Since they met IRL and not through an impersonal app interface, they skip a few steps and quickly get intimate. Noa’s best friend, Mollie, (played with verve by Jojo T. Gibbs) finds Steve’s lack of digital presence disturbing, but enjoying the love-buzz, Noa throws herself into her exciting new romance.

But Noa’s soon to find out—the very hard way—that behind this charming facade, ‘Steve’—a pseudonym—is really quite something else. Instead of the sophisticated getaway he promises her, she’s face to face with primal fears, and her sweet, sensitive lover is revealed to be a mix of Ted Bundy, Jeffrey Dahmer, and American Psycho, prone to Patrick Bateman-style musical interludes as he … well, that would be giving it all away. Suffice to say, in classic horror movie style, trapped in a mysterious house in the woods, Noa has to find a way to get out… And Fresh—directed by Mimi Cave, written by Lauryn Kahn, and produced by Adam McKay (Don’t Look Up, The Big Short, Vice)—is the clever, knowing, and full of suspense result.

Flaunt caught up with Daisy and Sebastian in London about Fresh, cuisine, and how they found a friendship in the midst of horror.

So how is London treating you?

SS: I think it’s been good, it’s only been 24 hours now since we’ve been here. But it’s been good—the rain is here, of course. A nice, cloudy, rainy day.
DEJ: I love it when it’s rainy in London— it’s my favorite! It’s so, you know, romantic and lovely when it rains.

Daisy, you are of course a born and bred London girl. It must be nice to be home. But you’ve lived in London before, haven’t you, Sebastian?

SS: Yeah! I was in London In 2003, when I did a year at the Globe Theatre; my college, Rutgers University, had a program at the Globe, so that was the first time I was here. In 2010, I basically lived here for a year do- ing Captain America: The First Avenger, and then I was in and out of London. Sebastian Stan has lived many lives. From his breakout role as disgraced prep-school bad-boy Carter Baizen on Gossip Girl to Marvel’s Bucky Barnes, Stan has largely managed to fly under the radar. That is, until now. Starring as Mötley Crüe drummer Tommy Lee in the hit Hulu series Pam and Tommy has planted Stan squarely in the spotlight. The miniseries, which also stars Lily James as Pamela Anderson, follows the untold story of the infamous sex tape seen ‘round the world, which was stolen and leaked during the wild early days of the Internet.

His latest role sees Stan explore the horrors of modern dating in Hulu release Fresh, where he stars alongside Daisy Edgar-Jones as Steve, a seemingly nice guy who is not at all what he seems. “The movie explores the idea of this hero complex, which fucks up all our relationships with each other; the idea that there’s a knight in shining armor that’s gonna come and save the day,” Stan says. “I’ve certainly fallen into the trap of wanting to be that strong guy who isn’t going to be vulnerable.”

Exclusively for L’OFFICIEL, Stan speaks with friend and former costar Margot Robbie about transforming himself for a role, on-set chemistry, and his favorite rom-coms.

MARGOT ROBBIE: I’m gonna start way back at the beginning, when you were conceived—no, I’m joking, not that far. We physically met during the chemistry read for I, Tonya, but I had seen your tape before. I don’t know if I’ve told you this, but I didn’t recognize you at all. I think you were wearing a turtleneck and you may have even grown the ‘stache. I remember being like, “Wow, this actor is so good, who is this guy? He’s going to be such a find.” And then I looked you up and I was like, “Holy shit, it’s the hot guy from Gossip Girl and those Marvel movies!” Since then, I feel like you just keep transforming. I wanted to ask you about the more physical transformation, particularly when it comes to Pam and Tommy and Fresh. Is that something you find helpful?

SEBASTIAN STAN: I feel like the physical stuff always helps us, right? Because I’m such a self-conscious person with regard to my “Sebastianisms.” Having to morph into something that’s not really you is scary, but it stops me from judging myself.

MR: Do you wanna know a Sebastianism that I’ve noticed? You cover half your face with your hand when you laugh. I love it.

For her directional debut, Mimi Cave didn’t hold back and that’s for the best! Her movie Fresh — premiering during the 2022 Sundance Film Festival — has been a huge success on the first day with a high score on Rotten Tomatoes (more than 90%). So why a movie about cannibalism is so good? Well because it’s actually way more than that.

First of all, there is a real depth to this story. Cave said it a few times and made it clear: the movie is globally about the fear of dating (toxic) guys as a girl. It’s a real satyr on what a lot of women face every day when they interact with men. Of course, not every guy is into cannibalism or gore stuff like that (and we’re thankful for that) but this extreme representation felt necessary to make people understand the goal of this movie. There are a few hints and puns made about it so the viewer understands the not-so-hidden message beyond this bloody comedy/thriller.

There is a super interesting thing about this movie: it is as fun as bloody. The gore scenes can be quite pictural but this aspect is only deepening the greatness of the movie. This duality is super important. It can leave the viewer a bit perplexed or lost, but only for the good. Because of course, this movie is meant to be disturbing as soon as it’s dealing with cannibalism stuff. The thing is everything in Fresh is made to make the viewer uncomfortable and deepen the fact that this feeling is very common for girls when it comes to dating, walking in the streets, or facing weirdos. Since this is the main subject of the movie, the graphics, set-ups, lights are all made to make the viewer understand what it would feel like to be in Noa’s (Daisy Edgar-Jones character) place and to go through what she’s enduring because of Steve (Sebastian Stan’s character).

With this very first movie, Mimi Cave also did a wonderful job at casting the perfect actors. Daisy Edgar-Jones is exactly what Noa needed to be and it feels like this character was written for her. She has this wonderful energy and is dealing with the different characters the way she’s supposed to. As for Sebastian Stan, the actor delivers what is (probably) his best performance ever, mixing darkness and humor in an amazing and perfect way. Just the same as Daisy Edgar-Jones, it feels like Steve was made for Stan.

The cinematography in itself is perfect to set the mood of the story. A lot of scenes are very red/orange which reminds of blood and are strong color, deepening the “evil” part of Steve and the story and recalling the blood and flesh (a reminder, again, of the cannibalism) as well as the distress and danger Noa is in. The camera movements are also well made and make perfect sense, sometimes bringing the gore idea of the story and sometimes letting appear enough to suggest an idea but not too much to let a part of suspense about what’s really happening and how is this exactly happening.

The whole movie is set and done perfectly and I wouldn’t be surprised if it receives a very positive acclamation. Everything about this is great and disturbing with an ongoing metaphor executed perfectly. Not a lot of thrillers or horror movies can claim to be well-made AND have a good storyline, but Fresh is certainly one of these rare films that can do both. The goal seems to let the viewer in a very disturbing and uncomfortable place and it works for sure! I wouldn’t recommend watching it in a light mood or if you don’t want to be grossed out.

To conclude, Fresh is what the gore genre needed to be represented. As fun as bloody, it’s creating mood swings and set a metaphor as heavy as accurate in real life, performed by actors almost too great.

About Sebastian Stan’s character: Steve is probably the darkest Sebastian Stan’s character out of all his filmography. He’s misogynistic, craving for blood but also quite funny and seductive. Everything in his personality is balanced and somehow opposed. He has a perfect disguise and Stan embodies perfectly this angel-faced true evil. Steve is the kind of guy a lot of people would describe as “love at first sight” but truly toxic and evil when getting to truly know him. Hiding behind great dance moves and charming approach, he has everything to charm— but also to kill. This character is a perfect representation of what a date-turned-wrong would look like and Stan gives us in him the best performance of his career (for now).

As unfamous as it is, Red Doors is a very great and interesting movie. In its integrity, it’s broaching a few heavy subjects, such as suicide, despression, loneliness, homosexuality and young love. The story is about the Wongs and their individual life problems, especially after the father — Ed— is disappearing one day. His three daughters and wife face then a new problem and are dealing with their own individually at the same time.

The movie is then super interesting because of the way the different subjects are portrayed, starting by the despression and mental health of the father, Ed. This character seems really lonely and empty, even around people. He barely speaks and try to kill himslef everytime he is alone, but is ultimately failing each and every time. His youngest daughter, Katie, even walks on him once and seems not to care. I think it is a very interesting point of view of the subject for multiple reasons. First of all, everytime he tries to kill himself, he has an instant of hesitation like he already knows it’s not going to work better than last time. There is a kind of lightness regarding this subject thaat makes the movie bearable but also not too deep or dramatic by still treating this subject with respect. This aspect of lightness is deepened when Katie witnesses her dad making a suicidal attempt and she doesn’t seem to be surprised, as if it’s a routine and she already knows he’s going to stay alive after this episode. This point of view on the subject is also really sad because of the fact that it became kind of a routine for the family. Seeing this character being so depressed and done with life but not seeking for help is pretty sad but also really true becausee it’s the case of a lot of people out there.

The second big subject portrayed in this movie is the homosexuality as well as being famous. These two subjects are intertwined in a single story: the one of the oldest daughter — Julie— who’s falling in love with an actress. Again, there is soe lightness in th e way this subject is being put in the movie because the women’s relationship is kept secret but not really at the same time. Yes, they are hiding and don’t tell anyone about their love but it doesn’t feel like they’re forced to do so due to their family or friends, they just do it. There is then a certain reserve about homosexuality but no homophobia of any kind. In fact, the two women are hiding their relationship regardless of the fact that they’re of the same sex. It is more about one of them being an actress than both of them being women and it can feel kind of hopefull for an LGBTQ+ watcher because this movie shows that not everything is bad in being queer and it actually feels kind of the same as being in a heterosexual relationship.

The last — but not least— subject is the one of young love. It affects two of the Wongs daughters: Samantha and Katie. One is already in her adult life while the other one is still in high school. They’re both exploring young love in two different ways. The oldest, Samantha, is reunited with her teenage boyfriend who’s now working at their okd high school. She’s engaged and seeing this guy again is going to put everything back in perspective in her life. At the same time, her youngest sister Katie is experiencing one of her first love. She and a boy named Simon have a love/war relationship where they both pull on pranks at each other but at the same time they both have a huge crush for the other. They’re actually reunited by a prank gone wrong (put in the first place by Katie) where they both end up being injured. It’s another kind of relationship than her sister and both point of views are very interesting to watch because they show the different sides of love.

In fact, (almost) every relationship in this story is a relationship about different kind of love. They’re all intertwined with other issues faced by the characters but in the end they’re all reunited by the same emotion: love. Red Doors becomes then a very beautiful movie about family and romantic relationships. There is no very big goal for the characters in this movie other than the one of going through their life, just like everyone else on this planet, which make them not that unique, in the end, and easily relatable for any viewer.

About Sebastian Stan’s character: Sebastian is portraying Simon, the young man who has a love/hate relationship with Katie, the youngest Wong daughter. Even if he doesn’t have a very long screentime, his character is interesting by his relationship with one of the mains. He’s a funny guy who likes to put on pranks on the girl he’s in love with. He’s portraying a very childish and frsh version of love, which is super interesting. In the end, his character is super endearing, funny and nice.

With 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance, Michael Haneke gives us one of his best movies so far. Also known for The Piano Teacher, Funnny Games and Happy End amongst others, the famous Austrian director is making his way around a new version of things but also a new version of cinema. Of course, he’s not the first one using this technique of fragmentation – and probably won’t be the last either – but he’s doing it and he’s doing it perfectly by even making it one of his signatures. This fragmentation is very interesting for the watcher (especially if they own a copy of the DVD because they’ll then realize that every fragment is chronologically picture on the cover — see this photo as a reference) because besides giving a special dynamic to the movie, it also keeps the watcher on alert.

The thing is, multiple stories are happening at once – from the young immigrant to the old lonely man – and they’re all mixed up together, fragmentally, creating a patchwork of their lives. Although they don’t seem to have anything in common except all living in the same country, in the end we discover that they actually do have something in common, or at least four of them (the mains). And so it’s just by the end of the movie that we realize how people who seem to have nothing related to each others can end up at the same time at the same place in a certain situation that will lead them all to the same end.

The beauty of this movie is actually in the technique used as well as in the story told all along. Both of those things reunited together give us a true cinematic masterpiece.

The plot of 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance is hard to sum up but this is a good thing. The movie is so vast and gives the watcher so many things, lives and stories to look at that in the end, it won’t seem like a movie at all. It kind of just make the person watching this a kind of extern point of view to a few people’s life story as if they were watching someone walking in the street or buying something in a shop. The movie then becomes a great collection of beautiful life moments that are so basic but so unique at the same time, making it impossible to describe in just a few words but that are worth watching entirely.

The fact that the movie seems to deal with a mass murder connecting all of these people together is also a very interesting aspect to it. In fact, this story could be interpreted and stage nowadays without any problem because it is still a very actual topic and that’s one of the things that makes this movie a timeless one and so easy to watch even almost two decades after its first release.

Esthetically, the movie is absolutely well done. However, a few fragments seem a bit to slow or kind of slow down the movie when there’s no need to. It doesn’t break the rhythm because there isn’t really one but it does can seem boring if too long or happening to often (which is, hopefully, not the case). But no matter what, 71 Fragments of a Chronology of Chance is still one of the best movies out there and an absolute must-seen.

About Sebastian Stan’s character: Sebastian appears in only one scene and his character doesn’t talk. He doesn’t have a name, barely has an age and interact only for a few seconds with one of the protagonists. His character is one of the people who are passing by in the main characters life and who doesn’t have a very big importance in it, even if he represents an allusion to the immigration and the acceptance of one country of an immigrant. In fact, he’s interacting with an immigrant kid of his age and play with him while waiting for a train. He doesn’t seem to care about the fact that this kid is a stranger (how could he know, since they don’t speak?) and still choose to goof around with him no matter what, showing that the acceptance can be very easy and natural.

Sebastian Stan was born on August 13, 1982, in Constanta, Romania. He moved with his mother to Vienna, Austria, when he was eight, and then to New York when he was twelve. Stan studied at Rutgers Mason Gross School of the Arts and spent a year at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London.

When he went back to New York he started working in some projects like Law & Order, Tony ‘n’ Tina’s Wedding and Red Doors. Upon finishing college, he played Martin Waters in The Architect, Chase Collins in The Covenant and worked in Eric Bogosian’s theater play The Talk. Also in 2007, Stan started playing Carter Baizen in Gossip Girl. His following projects were Spread, Kings, Hot Tub Time Machine, and Black Swan. He landed also the role of Bucky Barnes in Captain America: The First Avenger. In 2012, Stan worked in several projects: Gone, Political Animals, The Apparition, Once Upon a Time and the mini series Labyrinth. In 2013, he was in Broadway’s Picnic and in 2014 he was introduced as The Winter Soldier in the Marvel universe in Captain America: The Winter Soldier. He has continued his role as Bucky Barnes/The Winter Soldier in Ant-Man, Black Panther, Avengers: Infinity War, Avengers: Endgame and in 2021 on the Disney+ tv series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Other notable projects include Ricki and the Flash, The Martian, The Bronze and Logan Lucky. He was given high praise for his work in the recent I, Tonya.
